It's not About Perfection, It's About Action

Over the last few days I've been having a conversation with my partner here at the media headquarters about my need for perfection. To put it in a better perspective, I'm easily an idealist. What I mean by being an idealist is that I can slip into the mindset that everything has to be perfect before I act.

While there is nothing wrong with wanting things right, it can be a serious distraction and project killer that leads to procrastination. Perfectionists analysis, project, plan, organize, but often times won't act if the conditions, equipment etc. aren't just right. However, the best types of people to put around idealists are those that know how to get it done. People that can push the envelope and create an atmosphere of productivity.

While reading a few blog posts from fellow bloggers, "Don't Wait for Perfect" (Curt Rosengren) and "The Future of New Media" (CC Chapman) further confirm the importance of "just doing it!"

Here are a few tips for moving from perfection to action:
1. Just Do IT!
2. Perfection comes by doing something over and over again to those who Just Do IT!
3. Put people of action around you.
4. Act one step at a time. In other words approach projects one bite at a time.
5. Don't be afraid to fail. It's when we fail we learn some of our best lessons.
6. Don't worry what others will think.
7. Just Do IT!
